The Cumberland Community Forest Society is a group of residents of the Village of Cumberland dedicated to purchase local forests for recreational and aesthetic purposes. Their work has ensured the protection of over 150 acres of beautiful forest surrounding the Village of Cumberland. The annual Perseverance Trail Run is a great way to support this local cause and ensure that more forests are protected for the future.
Exciting news for 2016!
This year every dollar raised through the Perseverance Trail Run will be MATCHED once again by an anonymous ‘Forest Fairy’! We would like to encourage you to add a small (or big!) donation to the Cumberland Community Forest Society during your online race registration, to help us make the most of this awesome opportunity. All donors will receive a tax receipt directly from the CCFS to acknowledge their support. In addition, all proceeds from race gear (hats and shirts) will be doubled and donated to the CCFS so this is a great time to do some shopping. With your help, the CCFS will be able to protect more of the Cumberland Forest this year for all to enjoy in the future!
Thank you in advance for your support!
The Cumberland Forest is a lush second growth forest surrounding the Village of Cumberland on Vancouver Island. This forest is an important wildlife corridor and home to our watershed, at risk flora and fauna, salmon bearing creeks, wetlands, heritage landmarks and hiking and biking trails enjoyed by families, naturalists, hikers, mountain bikers and many others. The future of this forest and the future of Cumberland’s economy are directly linked. There are imminent plans to log this forest.
With the the help of Community Partners, Legacy Donors and Guardians, the CCFS has purchased 71 hectares of forest lands surrounding the Village of Cumberland since 2000. Their current focus is to raise $1,200,000 to purchase 3 more parcels of lush second growth forest land filled with wetlands, diverse plants and animals, heritage landmarks and significant hiking and mountain biking trails including Black Hole, Space Nugget and Bronco’s Perseverance.
